About Us
The Farm
If there is a heaven on earth for the Arabian horse, it would be Butler Farms, a place where there is a passion and love for this unique breed.
Butler Farms is set on more than 450 acres of North Carolina plantation countryside, with vast rolling pastures and eight beautiful ponds. The facility is centered around a 66 stall barn, a 70 foot training hall (pictured right), and a state of the art reproduction center, all built in beautiful Georgian Colonial style of red brick set off by white pillars in order to serve the wishes of any Arabian horse or his owner.
The entire barn is made brick and block, which keeps the barn cool during the warmer months of the summer and makes it, for the most part, fireproof and indestructible. Each stall has metal grid stall doors and grid windows on each side of the stall to allow for cross ventilation, which is very helpful in allowing good airflow through the barn and in reducing the incidence of respiratory disease brought on by poor ventilation. The offices are located in the center of the barn, with guest quarters and employee apartments located above the offices on the second floor.
In front of and behind the barn are several large turn- out paddocks where each horse is allowed to play and enjoy life. These turn-outs are large 4-rail fence pastures, some backed with diamond mesh wire for the safety of mares with babies. Two outdoor riding arenas, a covered bullpen, a hot walker and a treadmill combine with the barn, training hall, and turn-out paddocks to make an efficient and organized training facility.
Just steps outside of the main barn stands a fully equipped reproduction laboratory and stallion center. Southeastern Equine Reproduction Services has the ability to collect, evaluate, cool, freeze, and ship semen all over the world. SERS is approved by USDA, complete with quarantine stalls, and is overseen bya veterinarian.
Completing the Butler Farms set up is a beautiful presentation and cookout area along with a large party room where seminars, client parties and other get-togethers are held.
However, the facility set up is only a fraction of what makes up Butler Farms. Underlying the serene beauty and organized functionality of the Butler Farms facility is the passion for the Arabian breed within the partnership that runs it.
The farm itself is owned by C.A. and Frances Butler, who actively breed a number of mares each year. They are lifelong members of The Pyramid Society and the Arabian Horse Association. In the past, C.A. has served on the Pyramid Society Board of Directors and as the Region 12 Vice-Director. He is currently the Region 12 Director and is dedicated to promoting the Arabian horse in Region 12. His enthusiasm and guidance, along with the hard work of a number of Region 12 members, has already resulted in the Spotlight Stallion Futurity and a new Region 12 website.
The passion, facilities, and beauty of Butler Farms combine to create a place that is built to satisfy the needs of every aspect of the Arabian breed. A functional facility, rolling pastures, a stallion center, and owners dedicated to the advancement of the Arabian breed make Butler Farms, truly, a “heaven on earth” for the Arabian horse.
